A great article by Jane Nelsen on encouragement as seen on Positive Discipline – we simply had to share!
Rudolf Dreikurs taught, “A child needs encouragement as a plant needs water.” In other words, encouragement is essential. Children may not die without encouragement, but they certainly wither.
Encouragement is helping your children develop courage—courage to grow and develop into the people they want to be—to feel capable, to be resilient, to enjoy life, to be happy, contributing members of society, and, as Dreikurs said, “To have the courage to be imperfect,” to feel free to make mistakes and to learn from them.
T’was the weekend before Christmas and all through the mall
Shoppers were hurrying, they had to buy it all!
They looked at their lists, but still couldn’t find…
A copy of Little Voice, but they wanted it signed!
With only 5 days left, what would I do?
To top it off, I have to bake too!
When out in the parking lot arose such a clatter.
I peaked out the door to see what was the matter.
Away on the left, I saw a Little Elf.
I could have sworn it was the Elf on the Shelf!
I raced to my car, I was down to the wire.
And noticed he had left a colourful little flyer.
Little Sweets it had read, Monday on Preston!
A chance to buy Little Voice, it seemed it was destined!
But as I kept reading, my eyes grew real wide!
“Get Little Voice and some sweets on the side!”
Valentina’s Sweet Treats would save me from baking!
I was so excited, my legs started shaking!
I jumped in my car, no need for the mall!
I would just head to EVOO, they had it all!
We are very excited to be hosting our first Ottawa book launch tonight at Stella Luna Cafe! Bundle up and stop by between 6:30 and 9:30pm to pick up your copy of Little Voice!
Keeping with the festive season and the snow underway, we thought what better way to get excited than with a poem:
Here at Little Voice, we are huge supporters of local small businesses – not just because we ourselves are a small business, but because we truly believe in strengthening the economic base of our communities.
More and more, people are being encouraged to shop locally. This movement isn’t just a fad, and it has benefits that reach beyond keeping small mom and pop retailers afloat in a difficult economy. The more choices you have, the better the deals you can find. Small businesses encourage competition in the marketplace in a way that mega-corporations just can’t. Because local businesses help grow the economic base of your community, the dollars you spend have a domino effect. In many ways, that money will eventually find its way back to you.
On November 29th, Shop the Neighbourhood!
November 29th is the Shop The Neighbourhood event to promote local commerce! Better known as #shopthehood, this event is a free national initiative of Yellow Pages which supports small businesses and reminds Canadians how local shopping makes a difference in all our lives.
Check out the great deals in your participating city!
Ottawa has a great selection of registered small businesses! To see them all, visit the official Shop the Neighbourhood deals page here!
