With 2015 ahead of us, we can’t help but think of our own list of resolutions.
New Years is a perfect opportunity to think about what we want to accomplish in the year ahead. It’s a chance to think of our goals, both big and small, and a chance to create a plan of how we can attain them. It’s also an opportunity to think of ourselves and how we can improve our own outlook, our health, our intellect, etc… As well as a chance to think of others and how we can give back, offer support and volunteer.
A great article by Jane Nelsen on encouragement as seen on Positive Discipline
– we simply had to share!
Rudolf Dreikurs taught, “A child needs encouragement as a plant needs water.” In other words, encouragement is essential. Children may not die without encouragement, but they certainly wither.
Encouragement is helping your children develop courage—courage to grow and develop into the people they want to be—to feel capable, to be resilient, to enjoy life, to be happy, contributing members of society, and, as Dreikurs said, “To have the courage to be imperfect,” to feel free to make mistakes and to learn from them.
“A child needs encouragement like a plant needs water.”
For Little Voice, the concept of growth mindset is a means of defining the encouraging message and belief that is embedded throughout our very story.
This message encourages our readers to believe in themselves, to work hard and to chase their dreams with the confidence that they can be accomplished!
As you open Little Voice and begin to read the poem that is intended to both rhyme and inspire, you suddenly stop and wonder, “Is that a typo?”
T’was the weekend before Christmas and all through the mall
Shoppers were hurrying, they had to buy it all!
They looked at their lists, but still couldn’t find…
A copy of Little Voice, but they wanted it signed!
With only 5 days left, what would I do?
To top it off, I have to bake too!
When out in the parking lot arose such a clatter.
I peaked out the door to see what was the matter.
Away on the left, I saw a Little Elf.
I could have sworn it was the Elf on the Shelf!
I raced to my car, I was down to the wire.
And noticed he had left a colourful little flyer.
Little Sweets it had read, Monday on Preston!
A chance to buy Little Voice, it seemed it was destined!
But as I kept reading, my eyes grew real wide!
“Get Little Voice and some sweets on the side!”
Valentina’s Sweet Treats would save me from baking!
I was so excited, my legs started shaking!
I jumped in my car, no need for the mall!
I would just head to EVOO, they had it all!
We are very excited to be hosting our first Ottawa book launch tonight at Stella Luna Cafe! Bundle up and stop by between 6:30 and 9:30pm to pick up your copy of Little Voice!
Keeping with the festive season and the snow underway, we thought what better way to get excited than with a poem:
